Personalized Learning National Convening

Some of our staff were able to attend the National Convening on Personalized Learning this week in Milwaukee.  We heard from engaging keynote presenters and attended small group presentations, as well.  Sarah and I were even lucky enough to present on how to gamify professional development and classroom experiences.

It was a great day to connect with other districts doing this work.  We are looking forward to bringing back our learning as part of future meetings and work with instructional coaches.

As Sarah shared, we are also taking names of people interested in future site visits to Wisconsin schools to see some of they ways they have implemented this philosophy.   There are also opportunities on November 20th to attend sessions led by representatives from the Institute for Personalized Learning, so if you are looking to connect with this group please make sure to take advantage of these upcoming opportunities!

TIC Joint Statement

Today the Teacher Initiative Council met for their monthly meeting.  The following were topics discussed:

  • Public comments on the use of United Streaming and review of a LMS.  Further discussion will take place in other meetings on this topic.
  • The review of the goals for the TIC were discussed and approved.
  • The use of one PHH for SEL lessons were shared.  The structures vary slightly among the grade levels and schools.  The resources for this year were not as strong as past years.  The need to also further communication with Ad Team to make sure there is consistent availability of Reading interventions.  This topic will be reviewed at the District Behavior Team next Wednesday.  Topics can be flexible based on student learning and needs, but time dedicated to the needs that arise in the classroom needs to be consistent.
  • The topic regarding Kindergarten writing rubrics for assessment was discussed.  The intent is to assess writing on the common rubrics K-5, not require every Calkins lesson.  The topic will be followed up at the articulation day November 21st.  The dates set for the assessment will be confirmed at the November 21st meeting.
