Kaneland Connects Trivia

Nice job on Kaneland Connects trivia this week!  We are loving the competition among the staff weekly on trivia.  Kudos to all 35 staff members who correctly identified the difference between proficiency based progress and standards-based grading.  Remember proficiency based progress is based on identifying the learning expectations and creating a plan for learning, while standards based grading focuses on the assessment of learning and the point in time a student is at in their learning.

Shout out to our weekly winner:  Laura Emmert from KBK!!!  Your prize is on the way!

This week's trivia questions is:

In what year are we expecting students to be able to articulate and plan their learning based on proficiency expectations?

Email Patrick Raleigh at 11509@kaneland.org with the correct answer!

EC-12 Curriculum Review Cycle Beginning Soon

This year the focus of the curriculum review cycle is continuum teaching and learning.  The intent of the review committee is to revise any curriculum from a traditional (unit based) sequence to a continuum learning process in which student progression can be based of exhibition of proficiency.  If your grade level, department, or job alike peers would like to process through shifting, revising and creating content based on proficiency based continuum,  please contact Patrick Raleigh or Sarah Mumm to be part of the curriculum review team.  Our first full day working meeting will be September 27th from 7:30-2:50 for 6-12 and 9:30-3:30 for K-5.  If you have any questions about the review cycle, please contact the Educational Service Department.

Call for IgKnight Conference Proposals

Our annual IgKnight Conference is coming up on November 22nd.  The best part about this conference is learning from our peers during breakout sessions.  We need our great staff to share ideas, hold sessions, host open chats around learning or SEL and do self-care sessions for each other.  Sessions do not need to be a formal direct instruction session that you lead, but can also be open chats.  If you have an idea of a session you would want to host with your peers, please fill out the Call for Proposal google form.  The form will close soon and sessions will be locked, so please complete very soon!  We look forward to learning from each other and outside experts.
