Reporting student progress is not just for teachers! Students themselves should be able to articulate the standards they are working on, where they are on the path toward proficiency, and what their next steps in learning are. They should also be reflecting on themselves as learners and advocating for their learning needs. At IgKnight, students are sharing their learning progress with their parents through a Friday email. In these early weeks, they are focusing on their acclimation to IgKnight but will be progressing towards sharing the standards they are working on, where they are on continuums or learning, and information about their customized learning pathways. Here is one student's early communication with her family:

Kaneland Connects Escape Room is Now Open
We are excited to once again open the Kaneland Connects escape room, Oh the Place You Can Go With Kaneland Connects, for staff to earn prizes and treats! The escape room is housed at KMAC and is open for any team of staff members who want to work on communication, team building, or just test their knowledge of the strategic plan. If your team completes the escape room you will be entered in the LARGE drawing this December and May! It is a perfect way to work as a team, collaborate and take time together. Opportunities to do the escape room fill up quick during the IgKnight conference so feel free to take a half sub day as a team to do the escape room and spend time team planning the rest of the session. If interested in the escape room, contact Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org to set up a date and time. Test your knowledge of our district and plan today!
Student Learning Data Shared
Please see the summary of learning data shared with the BOE this past summer. This is an update of K-12 data and learning from last school year. Please contact Educational Service Department with any questions at all. Link to data summary.
K-5 Standard Based Grading System
This year the district is shifting to a new grading system. BDPS will not be used and we will shift to a numbering system and aligned K-8. Please take a moment to complete this survey in order for us to plan any training or support needed prior to report cards coming. Thank you.

Kaneland Connects Commitment Team
This September we are kicking off our districtwide Kaneland Connects Commitment Team. The purpose of this team is to provide a varied stakeholder group that will monitor the implementation of the Kaneland Connects Strategic Plan. Our teams meets three times per year to reflect on the progress of our plan. We are embarking on our 3rd year of the strategic plan with goals that focus on each stakeholder group. Our first meeting is September 27th and we do still have seats available. Please email Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org if you would like to join the committee.
Lucky Duck!
Well no luck yet! The last two weeks we have had no luck giving away the weekly lucky duck prize away! Check your numbers and see if you have lucky duck number 40!!! Email Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org if you are a lucky winner!
Tenet B: Growth Mindset
As a reminder of the expectation for Personalized Learning 3.0 evidence, we would like to share Tenet B- Growth Mindset!
The purpose of growth mindset is model self-efficacy and flexibility in thinking as a classroom facilitator and to foster that same growth mindset in your students. This modeling should be intentional and explicit no matter your content.
Evidence might include a student self-relfection on how they are open to ideas, relfection in the Learner Profile on further activities they want to expand on, the concept of YET, and many more!
If you are starting your looking to further continue your PL 3.0 evidence, feel free to stop by and see the many examples of evidence collected last year at KMAC on our evidence wall!
Reply All Feature
Many emails do come out at the start of the school year to large mass email groups. Please remember that we are trying to make sure that all staff are included in the correct mass email group and therefore use the groups to send and see who received them. Each week when you receive a mass email please do not use the "reply all" feature if you have a question for the creator of the email, just use reply. For example the Curriculum Connection blog goes to all Kaneland employees, if you have a questions for just Sarah or Patrick who sent it, please contact her with a "reply" button, not "reply all". This etiquette will cut down on the amount of emails you may get on a daily basis. Thank you so much for engaging in communication at the start of this year.
Collaborative Inquiry Kick Off
We are so excited once again to begin our K-12 Collaborative Inquiry sessions with staff. The purpose of the session is to build collective efficacy among our staff in order to review data sources, create action plans for continuous improvement and discuss a preferred future at Kaneland. Collective Efficacy is about the overwhelming power that teachers have to improve student learning and achievement when they work together, explore every avenue open to them, and persist relentlessly once they have found the best ways forward. Our next Collaborative Inquiry session is September 6th at KMAC LRC from 9:30-2:50. If you have been invited to the session as a school rep please make sure you have submitted your full day sub into AESOP. If you have an interest in being part of this process please contact Sarah Mumm. We look forward to a great day of data diving and sharing.
