District Personalized Learning Steering Committee Joint Statement

The district-wide Personalized Learning Steering Committee met on 9-8-22. The team welcomed both new and returning members and took time to share their "Why" in regards to personalized learning. Goals for the year were reviewed and included continued planning for the opening of IgKnight Academy in fall, 2023,  high school integration into Academy structures, IgKnight Conference session development, and supporting grade span PL teams in the continued infusion of PL within all schools. Time in the first meeting was dedicated to IgKnight Academy staffing and student enrollment, as well as the planning of our three upcoming, fall IgKnight Academy Informational Nights. Please consider attending one of the sessions to learn more about IgKnight. They will be held on 9-15-22, 10-20-22, and 11-17-22 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Meredith.

Updated Visual for High School Conversion Chart

Please do not be alarmed by the title of this post! There was a slight adjustment made to the visual conversion chart to match the numerical calculations based on the limitations we made last year. Please share and use this conversion chart posted below. The change comes in the form of the added single "2" in the upper tier of the chart. Please email me if you have any questions!

Personalized Learning Academy 3.0

It's been exciting to talk with staff who are beginning to plan their personalized pathway for completing PL Academy 3.0. Of the ten tenants of personalized learning included in PL Academy 3.0, the most common starting points so far have been Demonstrating a Growth Mindset and Student Self-Reflection through the Learner Profile. Remember that you don't have to plan out your entire pathway at the beginning. You can choose one or two things to start with and then consider your next steps after those are complete. Common pieces of evidence used so far to demonstrate proficiency within a tenant include feedback on Learning Walk forms and student work samples. If you have evidence of implementation of a tenant from a previous year, this CAN be used as evidence of proficiency as long as it is a continuing practice in the classroom. Many staff have also communicated their intent to collaborate with colleagues, including instructional coaches, as they begin their pathway.

Elementary Learner Profile Launch

KBK 2nd Graders listened to Mo Willems' There is a Bird on Your Head as part of their introduction to the revised learner profile. Throughout the book, Elephant becomes increasingly frustrated with a family of birds who are nesting on his head. When Piggie suggests he simply ask the birds to move, Elephant learns how effective advocating for himself can be! If you'd like to win a copy of this text to use with your own students, send an email to Laura, or better yet have a student send an email, sharing how self-reflection and/or advocacy are coming alive in the classroom.
