Kaneland 2020 Electronic Gallery Walk Celebration

In February each year we take time to reflect and celebrate the wonderful progress in learning based on Kaneland 2020.  Usually we host a night for community to come and view our progress.  This year we will try a slightly different format, electronic.  We will be pulling together a Canvas course for community that shares our progress, student celebrations, and learning innovations.  If you have been trying and refining practice and want to celebrate your students' learning progress, please check out the link below to submit your idea.  The videos are not needed until January, so there is plenty of time to reflect and plan.  The link is just to capture those that have ideas for videos so we can follow up with you closer to the time.  Please take a moment to complete the link and share ideas of what you may capture for the electronic celebration.  If you have been impressed with a colleague and would like to nominate them to share their story and progress, you may complete the form for them and we will follow up with them.  Let's show the community and all around us our Kaneland Pride!

Super Hero Reminder

YOUR SPIRITWEAR IS WAITING!!!

Remember:

It is time again for another great contest to really hit home what proficiency-based progress means (and tap into the creative side of our staff). We want you to create the best model for a Superhero that would define what proficiency-based progress and proficiency-based table creation exemplifies.  You have been working hard with your grade levels and departments on defining proficiency and making tables and now it is time to have some fun.  The winners of this contest will get a Kaneland Spirit Wear reward for their SUPER work!  All you need to do is:
1.  Create a PBP Superhero
2.  Send your Superhero model to Sarah Mumm or Patrick Raleigh
3.  Hope you win!

NOTE:  The format of your superhero could take any form (personalized learning option time).  It could be a picture you drew, a picture of yourself dressed up as PBP Superhero, a written description of your superhero, a clay model, or a full-length movie trailer.   Any format is acceptable.

Let's have some fun and capture the essence of proficiency-based progress work!   All submissions are due by November 15th.

K-5 Guided Reading Reminder

Over the past month there has been discussion on the use and requirement of Guided Reading.  Guided Reading is an essential part of Balanced Literacy.  Guided Reading is a required part of your instruction through balanced literacy in ELA.  Guided Reading may look differently from classroom to classroom and based on student needs.  You must use small group reading or reading conferences in your classroom but the groups can be determined in various ways.  Guided Reading can be defined traditionally as the Fountas and Pinnell reading level groups and that is not required but each classroom needs to be grouping and instructing students in a guided format through conferences, workshops or small groups.  These can be guided by skills, reading levels and/or interest.  I hope this clarification helps you plan instruction and next steps in learning
