Tenet A: The LDIP Continuum

As a reminder, the purpose of the learning continuum is to have fluid progression throughout the unit of study among the LDIP levels depending upon content and student need. The LDIP levels are (L) Legacy, (D) Differentiation, (I) Individualized, and (P) Personalized.
For this tenet, you must show evidence of authentic implementation from your learning environment that exhibits the use of each of the levels of LDIP.  Evidence must include artifacts along with a reflection that shares the rationale for the instructional method and LDIP level utilized.

Some evidence that we have collected over the course of last year includes:

-Whole group novels (L) to individual novel choices used to discuss character development (I and P)
-Students selecting learning activities of their own that connect to a reported standard on a math continuum (P)
-A shared list of Must Do learning activities (D) and May Do learning activities (I)

This is only a small sample. For more help with Tenet A, please reach out to a mentor, team member, or coach for some ideas on implementation!

PD Spotlight- Summer Summary

What a great summer of learning! We wanted to thank all staff and outside presenters for the great summer PD session offered.  It was overwhelming the amount of sessions and staff attendance.  Kudos to all of you for continuing to learn all summer long.  Here is a summary recap of the amazing learning sessions from the summer.  This is a report that we do share with our community as well through the BOE.  Way to go Kaneland!

LAST Call of IgKnight Sessions

We are in the final stages of planning the amazing IgKnight Conference for this November.  It will be bigger and better than ever!  If you have a topic you would like to present or facilitate with your peers, this is the last chance to submit your proposal.  All proposals are due at midnight on September 1st.  If you are interested in hosting a session please submit your proposal through this link

Our SEL Commitment

Our SEL focus for this year will be continuing to build the capacity and understanding of our services both within our Kaneland schools as well as within all of our communities. We will look to make connections between what is happening through our SEL and homeroom time and meaningful conversations parents can continue to have with their children at home.

The 2nd lens of our SEL will be to continue to offer support for one another here as we navigate our daily interactions. We will host SEL sessions during our IgKnight time and we will emphasize our efforts to stay above the line in our collaboration and work with one another.

PBP Tables for Goal Setting and Clarity

The best tool to use for goal setting is the PBP table itself. As we have finalized our tables, teachers and students will have increased access to multiple grade levels of standards allowing them to set a personalized goal directly tied to the language that is used for instructing. So for planning, part 1 is done - clarity!

Goal setting really taps into the co-constructed feedback process with students, and it is helpful to look at planning in terms of content, process, or product. I would recommend looking at this through the lens of process and the questions we ask about our KLCs- what do I want my students to know, how do I know they have gotten it, what do I do when they a) are not proficient, or b) they demonstrate proficiency sooner than the rest?... and I would tie this directly to the language that is captured in each table.

Co-constructing feedback allows you to look at student data together to plan out what the next steps may be for each individual student. SMART goals may help to set a time-bound goal tied to the individual student, or it may look best charting each of your standards on a continuum.

However you choose to track student progress, it is critical that it remains tied to student data (based on your formative and summative assessments) and the language of the proficiency tables!

SIP Data Collection IMPORTANT

It is that time of year again for our SIP data collection to begin.  This year each school will have the common SIP goal of Kaneland Connects and one school based goal.  Starting August 28th we will collect the Kaneland Connects data for the pre-data for 2023-24.  Please be sure to complete the following steps with your students:

-3rd to 12th grade staff:  Please share this link with your students and have them complete the survey between August 28th to September 1st at 3:00pm

-Kindergarten to 2nd grade staff:  Please PRINT this assessment and give this assessment to each student between August 28th and September 1st at 3:00pm.  Once completed please send to Sarah Mumm ASAP for scoring and data entry.  Final assessments will be picked up from any schools on September 1st at 3:15.

Please contact the Department of Educational Services at any time you have questions.  Have a great new year of data collection!

Lucky Duck Mania

It has been so exciting to see the creative ways our staff have taken on staying connected and committed to finding their lucky duck partner.  We have seen email signatures, Facebook group posts, google docs, and signs on doors.  Keep up the hunt!  So far we have 9 matched pairs!!!!

This week if you have a lucky duck number 2 you win!!!!!  Email Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org for your prize this week!

FYI- if you are Lucky Duck 44 contact Sarah!!!!

Escape Room Opening Soon

This year we are excited to unveil the Where Is The Knight Mystery Escape Room.  This escape room will connect and give some key information for the Four Schools, One Book program coming in January!  While attending an in-district escape event you will also have the ability (depending on scheduling) to tour the Kaneland IgKnight Personalized Learning Academy and possibly work with Inspire, Empower, and FVCC students.  It is encouraged for 3rd to 5th grade students to attend early in the school year to get to know the Academy option and learn key facts to solve the Four Schools, One Book read.  In an effort to spread out the escape events, we will have open dates for schools to attend.  If you would like to sign up to lock in your date now email Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org. We will also publish second semester dates later this Fall.

Be sure to bring your best detective skills and get ready to solve the mystery of where the Knight is in Kaneland!

Learner Profile in Kindergarten

The Learner Profile is a foundational tool for helping students to know themselves as learners. For students to truly take an active role in their learning, an understanding of themselves as learners is essential. Take a look at a Kaneland Kindergartener beginning to understand the role her family plays in her learning.
