Who's Excited..... Kaneland Connects

Importance of Language

I have been reading a book title Freed to Lead, which does not have a very direct connection to education, but I was encouraged by the author discussing the importance of language, particularly through the lens of leadership. This connects directly to us as instruction leaders, teacher leaders, and role models for our kids. As we've been visiting more and more classrooms and having discussions with students for a variety of different reasons, it is clear the impact our language has on students. I encourage you to be aware of the language you use in different settings- does it inspire collaboration or seek compliance? Do your discussion techniques allow for authentic learning opportunities or more causal conversations? How are you deliberately planning for a high level of academic discourse in your classes while still seeking to make your lessons engaging and relevant to each student? Would "school-age you" be excited to engage in a conversation with "professional you"?

Our words carry a tremendous impact on kids and colleagues alike! Keep up all of the great work that was on display this last month.

Last Call for IgKnight Proposals

We need you! IgKnight is coming later this fall and we would love to have informal and formal sessions presented and shared by all of you.  On this day you have a choice of sessions, but as of right now choices are limited.  We know how many great things are happening in our classrooms and online this year, please consider sharing your journey or presenting a self-car session.  If we are unable to have a variety of sessions, staff will select only from the pre-recorded modules for SEL and PBP virtual vetting.  Although these are great modules, we would love to have other topics of interest available for all of you.  The submissions process closes this FRIDAY, get your session topic in today.  Thank you!
