Burlington Canvas Camp

Earlier this week you may have noticed a reference to a Canvas Camp that Burlington is hosting.  The Canvas-specific portion will be in the afternoon, but they will offer various sessions in the morning that you are welcome to attend, as well.  There beginner, intermediate, and expert levels of Canvas in the afternoon, so there's something for everyone!

If you're interested in attending they have been gracious enough to extend the invitation to our staff, but they have asked that you register by August 1 so they can know who to expect and how to plan.

You can see more information and register here.

Writing Planning and Writing Delivery Proficiency Table

As part of the K-5 ELA review process, we have created a proficiency table for the planning and delivery of writing instruction.  This table can be used for staff to self-assess their areas of writing instruction and identify areas to further grow or which PD to attend based on their needs.  It is expected that unless you are in the proficiency level you will use the Lucy Calkins writing tools next school year.  Please remember Ed Service and Instructional Coaches are always here to meet and share feedback or support any staff on this process  This table is non-evaluative, it is meant for the expectations of writing delivery and planning to be shared.  We look forward to kicking off the school year with one consistent expectation for writing delivery.

Professional Development Offerings for Summer 2019 to Spring 2020

We are excited to share the initial draft of the professional development offerings for next school year.  Please take note of the color coding for easier view of the offerings in a certain content focus areas.  Please note that the summer and fall offerings may be more detailed in content and I can expectations.  Throughout the year, based on progress made in these focus areas, we will continue to further develop the Winter and Spring sessions.  We look forward to this great work and thank the stakeholders that assisted in the development of the offerings.  Please contact Mike Rice or Sarah Mumm with any questions or to sign up for a summer session. K-5 MTSS Steering Committee

As we move into planning for next year, we are continuing to look for MTSS Steering Committee members.  At this time the negotiated rate for the work is undetermined until negotiations conclude.  At minimum you can receive in-district credit for the work.  As the KEA agreement is finalized, a rate of compensation will be determined.  We are holding our first meeting on August 1st.   We are hoping to have a great committee in place by that date.  Please email Sarah Mumm if interested in being on this committee.  We look forward to the next 12 months of planning any shifts.
