School Day Research Update

This month the School Day Research Committee met for their last meeting of the year.  The following was an update and conclusion for some the topics:

Trimesters:  Approved and implemented for 2018-19 at the K-5 level; no plans at this time to implement at the 6-12 level
Switch of school hours:  Researched indicated there would be a need to purchase additional busing in order to make this process work.  At this time the proposal is tabled until the district is in a position to find funding to support the process.
Alternate snow days:  The team found that the use of Fridays in May as alternate snow days creates a hardship in meeting related service and special education minutes.  A second idea was posed about using President's Day and researching the ideas of a two week Spring Break and using any days at that time for snow days.  This concept will be further discussed at Cabinet and continued to be reviewed internally.  The Cabinet is also looking into the use of e-learning (virtual snow days).  This process has been piloted by nearby districts and the State will soon determine the acceptance for funding of virtual school days.  This will continue to be a process we research.  This would not be implemented for next year.
Year round school:  This concept was discussed and the team will continue to send any articles or research to the Educational Service Department for future review.

We would like to thank all members of this committee for their hard work this year.  Thank you!
