Learning Forward is Coming to Chicago!

Each year we send a group to the Learning Forward Conference.  It has been an essential conference for Kaneland work and staff to grow and develop in our current Strategic Plans.  We are excited to finally have the conference coming to Chicago.  Since the conference will be in our own backyard, we would love for many of you to submit a proposal to present!  This would give you an opportunity to share your progress on an international stage and network with educators from around the world!  Proposals are due February 3rd, so please apply soon.  Check out the conference site:  https://conference.learningforward.org/

1:1 One-pager Contest

It's that time again!

By now, we are well into our 1:1 instruction and use of the new Chromebooks. Hopefully, these devices are allowing you to connect beyond the 4 walls of your classroom. We are looking for staff members to create a one-pager using the directions below and submit it to The Education Service Department. The top 3 one-pagers will be shared with all staff and the staff member who created the winning document will win a Sign FX Gift Certificate. Here are the details of how to submit your reflection one page:

The one page must include:

A title that focuses on 1:1 Learning

Summary of key points of the process for instruction

Visuals that assist the understanding of the process

Key words to remember

Creativity in the use of space

Clear content

Content that exemplifies the process of how the use of a 1:1 device has redefined how you instruct in your class

Must only be one page!

Email your one pager to Patrick Raleigh at 11509@kaneland.org  by January 27th.

Good luck and be creative!

Are You Doing Your Homework

Welcome back and Happy New Year! Hopefully, everyone is coming off a two-week hiatus in which you were able to disconnect from work and recharge with friends and family members. As educators, we are so in tune with the care of our students that it often comes at the sacrifice of our own health and wellness.

In November, we heard from Dr. PJ Caposey on the importance of being able to manage our workload, with an emphasis on being able to disconnect or remove some of the stressors that we inadvertently place on ourselves.

So are you doing your homework? Have you been more deliberate in making some time for yourself and your personal needs? If so, great! Maybe you want to share with your colleagues, post on social media, or share with your KLC. It seems cheesy, but in sharing, you may inspire others to do the same.

If you haven't been able to, why not? Do you have a critical friend that you can work with? Maybe do a time study on yourself to see how you are spending your time and see if there are areas you can shave off some unnecessary stressors. And again share!

As always, keep up the great work that is happening. You are appreciated!

Young Knight Fair....Calling All Volunteers!

This year's Young Knight's Fair for all incoming students from the ages of 0-5 will take place February 22nd.  It is a time to get to know our district, meet teachers, meet local vendors, and register for Kindergarten (the Class of 2033).   While we have many great student volunteers, we also need a few staff workers.  Working the fair means you will come to assist in set up (some heavy lifting required), take down, and run a table by interacting with students and playing some games with them.  The workers must be present from 7:15 to 11:15 at Harter Middle School.  Please email Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org if you would like to participate.  Bring your cheery attitude as we welcome our youngest knights!

Escape Before the Four Schools, One Book is Revealed

We are excited to have many grade levels that have taken part and escaped the Super Power Escape Room.  The escape room is still open and ready for any in-district field trip groups to attend.  It is a great opportunity to work on team building, communication, and key reading and math skills.  If you have an interest in attending the escape room, please email Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org.  At the end of each of the escape room events students get the opportunity to vote for the secret Four Schools, One Book title.  The title will be revealed January 24th, so if you would like your students to attend the escape room prior to the reveal consider setting a date soon.  The escape room will be open all year until May, and students can attend after they know the title of the Four Schools, One Book.  The escape room is available for Kindergarten through 7th grade.

EC-5 ELA Review Cycle Key Dates

February 25th- Pilot feedback and decision making for ELA (reading) 9:30-3:00
