ELA Review Kickoff Meeting

Hello all!

We will officially begin the ELA kickoff review on 9/27 from 8-3 at Meredith Middle School in the LRC.

We are currently gathering names from building principals and reaching out to those identified to attend this kickoff meeting.  Some of those emails have started to go out already, so be on the lookout.  If you are interested in attending, please make sure you talk to your building principal, Sarah, or Mike.

You need not attend this initial meeting in order to be a part of the review process.  This meeting will simply be to establish some timelines and norms for our work.  We will still have quite a bit to do over the course of the year!

SIP Data Collection

As we will do again next week, we just wanted to share that the dates for the SIP data collection interviews that will be taking place from 9/10-9/21.  As a reminder, members from site based SIP teams, Instructional Coaches, and administrators will all be partnering to come through and interview students to gauge where they fall on the rubrics for their knowledge of the Learner Profile and Proficiency Based Progress.

Our SIP Goals (and the associated rubrics) are here for your review.  This round of data collection is to establish base-line data, and there is no expectation that you do anything specific to prepare your students other than what you would be doing anyway!  Our hope is that over the course of the year our collective work as a district will help move our students along the continuum.

Learner Profile Extension Goal:
By February 2019, the overall percent of students observed at levels 2 and 3 on the learner profile rubric will increase 30% from February 2018 levels.  In February 2018, 56% of students observed were at a level 2 or 3, making the goal for 2019 86% of students observed.

The following rubric will be used:  0- no idea yet, 1- able to share what it is, 2- able to share what it is and how it applies to their learning needs, 3- able to identify, apply to their needs, and advocate for their instruction to be tailored to a need.

Proficiency Based Progress Goal:
By February 2019, the overall percent of students observed at levels 2 and 3 on the proficiency based observation rubric will increase from September 2018 to February 2019 by a total of 60%.
The following rubric will be used:  0- no idea yet, 1- able to share the learning target (I can statement) that is the focus of the lesson 2- able to share how they’ve gotten feedback tied to a learning target (I can statement) 3- able to share the learning target (I can statement) and describe the type of feedback they were given tied to that learning target (I can statement) and how that impacts their future learning.

Team Interview Process for Exceeding Data

Team Interview Process for Exceeding Data and Student Growth

The intent of this protocol is for the Educational Service Department to meet with staff and teams that have produced and facilitated higher student achievement and growth in their grade level.  Each Spring, the Directors of the Educational Service Department will review the data sources and meet with teams showing the highest levels of performance and growth.  The following will be the identification process, meeting structure, and questions for the interview.

Purpose:
Our purpose is to learn from you about what made your team successful. To that end,  we will be taking notes and finding common themes from all of our discussions with various teams throughout the district. We will be sharing our findings with others, including all staff at the start of each school year.

Identification Process:

  • Review common formative assessment growth scores (in Matrix, Pulse, or local spreadsheets by school)
  • Look for the highest gain scores in ELA, Math, and Writing
  • Identify teams that produced the highest gains in learning
  • Identify teams that had the highest scores to meet if time allows

Meeting Structure:

  • Email the teams and explain the process and set a date
  • Come to the school to meet with the team
  • Provide breakfast or lunch for the team taking time to meet
  • Try to meet during collab, team time, or lunch
  • Set 20-25 mins of sharing time based on questions provided

Questions to Share:

  • We would like to hear your answers to the following questions.
  • What are 3-4 factors that you would attribute your team success to?
  • What risks have you taken?
  • Did you experience any failures and, if so, what did you learn?
  • What is your advice for other teams?
  • What ideas do you have to move the district forward?

Call for Proposal Reminder

We are so excited for the great work happening in our district and it is time to share and celebrate.  Please fill out the Call for Proposal from for IgKnight Day.   We are excited to learn from each other and also welcome our keynote Myron Dueck, author of Grade Smarter Not Harder. If you would like to read his professional book prior to the November 19th, please request a copy from Sarah Mumm or Mike Rice. It should be a wonderful day of learning.

Continue to Discovery Personalized Learning

We are excited to release by the start of next week the GREEN discoveries for personalized learning.  Please remember these can be accessed through Canvas, the link will be sent to all staff.  After completing the RED discoveries that you began, or finished, during the second Institute Day, you can begin the green discoveries.  When you complete 5 of the green discoveries you can then set a day to meet and debrief with Mike, Sarah or IgKnighters to earn 1.0 in-district credit.  Over the course of the year you can earn up to 4 credits!  Be on the lookout for these great learning opportunities.
