Middle School and High School Teacher Advisory Committees

 Hi All-

This is just an FYI to build momentum for the possibility of forming a teacher advisory committee for both our middle school and our high school. In the near future, we will be working to establish outcomes and expectations for this group. We have met in the past as AAC/OC for 6-12, but I would love to have the chance to have separate committees for both the middle school and the high school. This would be an opportunity for teacher leaders to provide feedback on a variety of topics throughout the year.

This is a paid committee that would be held outside of contract hours. I am not asking for commitments through this post, but want to put the idea out there for you to consider!

Personalized Learning Steering Committee

A Steering Committee to plan for the expansion of personalized learning in Kaneland schools has been created. The committee is comprised of teachers and administrators from all grade spans. The work of the committee will be guided by the overall goal of creating a continuum of personalized learning experiences for all Kaneland students including:

    • infusing LDIP instructional practices into all units of study, at all grade spans

    • creating structures that infuse components of personalized learning into all Kaneland schools

    • investigating school-within-a-school opportunities

    • creating a stand-alone IgKnighter Academy school, to run in tandem with the typical Kaneland experience

The purpose of the committee's work is to create opportunities for students to personalize their learning, by moving at their own pace, while achieving curricular outcomes, through co-created, customized paths, and proficiency-based progression. A focus will be on student-driven, inquiry learning with explicit and timely feedback and in some cases, with no specific ties to grade designations or bell schedules.

Regular updates regarding the work of the committee will be provided to all stakeholders.

2nd and 3rd Grade Cursive Instruction

This past Spring the Board of Education approved the adoption of one cursive unit.  This cursive unit is to be completed at the end of Second Grade.  There is a vast amount of resources out there to teach the basics of cursive.  Teachers have the ability to select and choose any resource they would like to teach the unit of study.  The focus of the unit is to teach upper and lowercase cursive letter formation. Students may also want to learn how to write their name in cursive.  It is a basic introductory unit.  Please know that this unit should not be taught until the third trimester.  This is just a heads up on the unit that will be coming this Spring, for now there is no action.
