PL 3.0 Expectations

The purpose of all Kaneland
Personalized Learning PD Academies has been to promote continual professional growth among staff, to enhance student learning. Personalized learning is a district wide philosophy and i
mplementing learner-centered instructional practices continues to be a non-negotiable for all Kaneland staff.

Kaneland Personalized Learning Academy 3.0 is the culminating Academy, allowing teachers in all Kaneland schools to demonstrate application of the Ten Tenets of PL. Staff have a period of two years to share evidence of each tenet being applied within their setting. For those who ended their two year cycle in May 2024, and have not yet submitted PL 3.0 evidence, we will be following up this month to provide support with completion. For those in their first or second year of completion, feel free to reach out to  Educational Service if you have any questions. For your reference, the Ten Tenets of PL in Kaneland can be found HERE, and the original PL 3.0 Presentation can be found HERE.

Kaneland Connects Goals: Customized Learning Pathways

Why Customized Learning Pathways?

Kaneland Connects captures the clear direction of our district, as articulated within our vision, mission and commitments.  This plan was developed with extensive input from the Strategic Plan Committee, which included members of the Board of Education, Kaneland students, parents, community members, staff members, CAC and FAC representatives and Kaneland Administration.Within the MTSS, SBG, and PBP strands of Kaneland Connects, proficient indicators include:

  • Students can learn through a flexible, customized system of support focused on enhancement or remediation interventions
  • Students can reflect on their learning and assist in the monitoring of their customized learning plan
  • Students can articulate their customized learning pathway to all stakeholders
  • Students can create a customized learning plan based on their progress towards proficiency by determining assessed assignments and other practice/exploration work
What are customized learning pathways?
Customized learning pathways adapt educational experiences to account for individual student’s various strengths, needs, motivations, progress, and goals. We know that learning is not one-size-fits-all. Every student learns in different ways, at different rates, and has different interests. A customized learning path identifies a clear progression of learning, including benchmarks, proficiency indicators, and what evidence of learning will be shared. Key questions students and teachers consider together when creating a customized learning path include:
  • Where am I in my learning right now?
  • Where do I need to get or what is my goal?
  • How am I going to get there?
  • How am I going to show what I learned?

What are examples of customized learning pathways in Kaneland?
  • Goal setting conferences with students
  • Must Do-May Do charts
  • Students choosing how to engage with content- through an online module, reading a textbook, meet in a group with a teacher, legacy lesson, etc.
  • Students demonstrating proficiency in a variety of ways
  • Students choosing to work or engage in discussions individually, with a partner or in a small group
  • Students choosing best seating options to align with current work/tasks

Learning Targets Shared (EC-12)

Thank you for sharing your learning targets from the first school day on the SIP day.  Here were a few more shared that day!  Keep the focus on your targets this year!

-Focusing on the MTSS and the SPED connections!

-Diving into professional development on the tenets of personalized learning as it relates to my paraprofessional position.

-Focus on making sure learners know where they are on their path to proficiency.

-Building clarity and making sure everyone has a shared knowledge of what proficiency looks like in learning.

-Focusing on students' overall well-being.

-Learning how students learn and how to empower them so they can do anything they focus on!

E-Learning Staff Version (EC-12)

On Monday night at the BOE meeting the most recent version of the e-learning plan was approved with minor changes.  The change shifted Second Grade to the use of Blizzard Bags during e-learning and not online remote learning.  All EC-2nd grade Teachers need to be working on preparing activities (options are provided in the guidelines) for the students to work on during e-learning.  All students need to have printed Blizzard Bags sent home by October 11th (prior to our school holiday on October 14th).  Please be sure to send home your printed packets by that date for all EC-2nd students.  All other guidelines are the same as last year.  Please be sure to review the expectations for e-learning in this staff document.   The following document will be sent home to families later this week.

KEA Initiatives Meeting

We are looking forward to the upcoming annual Fall KEA initiatives meeting on September 30th held at Harter from 1:00 to 3:00.  In order to best prepare for the meeting we would like to reshare the Spring 2024 roadshow (which has been revised with links).  Please take a moment to share any questions you have that you would like discussed at the upcoming KEA initiatives meetings with your building AR by September 17th.  We look forward to a good discussion on September 30th.
