The Educational Services Department has held two of the six scheduled Roadshows. A few common questions regarding the work of the Steering Committee have emerged. As I begin to compile an FAQ document, I thought I would share the two most frequent questions here.
Q: Is the Academy meant for our highest performing students? A: No, the Academy is developed to service ANY student who is seeking an opportunity to learn in an environment driven by their unique needs and interests. Yes, this includes students with IEP's.
Q: Will involuntary transfers be used when staffing the Academy? A: No, there will be an application process developed for any interested internal or external candidate.
As a reminder, the overall vision of the Steering Committee is:
To create a continuum of personalized learning experiences for all Kaneland students including:The EAC membership for next year was reviewed. Seats are still open for this shared decision making team next year. Please contact Alex Hay, Nichole Kenyon, or Sarah Mumm with any interest or questions. Most meetings occur on Mondays, with a balance of in-person and synchronous meetings. Some shorter months will only have an electronic self-paced meeting. The EAC stipend is $178 for your time. Current open seats are as follows:
Early Childhood- 1st Grade: 3 open seats
2nd-3rd Grade: 2 open seats
4th- 5th Grade: 1 open seat
Exploratory: 2 open seats
1 Chair
The EAC discussed options for meetings structure and how to increase participation and all voices even more next school year.
The team discussed the Careers Across Kaneland concept for next school year. This is a grant funded process that will provide a consistent career exploration event and discussion for all students. The team will continue to discuss options for next year over the course of the next month.
The team took time to review the Graduate Profile linked to Kaneland Connects (our next Strategic Plan). The district continues to work on drill down language by grade span over the course of the summer for a full roll out in August.
The team discussed the intention and history of the culturally responsive standards. Some initial historical discussion of the standards that are focused on teacher prep was conducted. Educational Service will be creating more focused videos to share the intent.
Finally, the team discussed the options for creating a consistent Canvas welcome page K-5 with the topics and order. Training on this process and consistent look will begin
