Stories from the Road

We're itching to get the Kaneland white bus back on the road! We need your help determining the next destination. We are seeking "Stories from the Road" to highlight in upcoming blog posts. Please consider submitting, individually or as a team, an example of Kaneland Connects in action at your school. Videos, photos, written reflections, student work, and any other types of evidence would be great! The school with the most submissions in September will win a visit from the white bus....loaded with prizes! Hoping to see YOU soon.

Teaching the Typography of Feedback - Peanuts Style

CORRECTION

Direction from a learning partner about a necessary change in practice, along with the inclusion of the preferred replacement and rationale for change.

This form of feedback is on the lower end of the continuum for cognitive demand.

6-12 Science Review

This year our district will be reviewing our Science curriculum. We are looking to kick off the review on September 19th at Meredith. If you are interested, please talk to your building principal about your interest. We will be working to build a comprehensive team for the review. For 9-12, our focus will predominantly be on the required courses for graduation. We are looking forward to a productive review!

Getting Started with PL Academy 3.0

As you begin to design your customized path to completing Personalized Learning Academy 3.0, please keep the following information in mind, which comes from the shared presentation,  Personalized Learning Academy 3.0.

  • Remember that PL 3.0 is the culmination of many years of district-provided professional learning experiences, and is designed to ensure that ALL Kaneland students have opportunities to engage with personalized learning experiences.
  • Reflect on the ten required PL tenants (listed on slide #5 in the 3.0 presentation), and your current level of implementation with each. The Personalized Learning Hub shared on slide 33, is a great resource to support you.
  • You have the autonomy to design a pacing guide and completion sequence that best meets your personal needs. The 3.0 presentation has an example template you can use to draft your pathway. Here is an example of a template created by a Kaneland staff member showing the order in which they plan to progress through the tenants.
  • Your pathway can evolve over the next 18 months. To start, you just need to identify the tenants you already have securely in place and can update your path as your progress with implementing the information accumulated through district-professional learning.
  • EAC/ Leadership committees will be working to support progress within PL 3.0. Feel free to share questions with a rep or attend as a guest.
  • If you need help getting started, be sure to access your instructional coaches and/or Ed Service team members for support.

Todd Talks 2022-2023

Dr. Leden will be continuing his Todd Talks series this school year, as a means of keeping the Kaneland community informed about Kaneland Connects progress. The first episode for 2022-2023 can be found below.

K-5 Science Review

This year our Science curriculum is up for review.  At this time we only have 1 classroom teacher and 1 interventionist interested in serving on the committee.  This committee will be making the decisions on Science maps, PBP tables, and tools that may be used for learning environments in Science. We really would love more voices as part of this process.  Science will not be up for review again for at least 7 years.  Please contact Sarah Mumm if interested.  The first committee meeting date is 9-19 from 8-3:00 at Meredith.

PBP Table Use: Student Self-Reflection

This is a perfect time of year to begin the student self-relfection process and use the proficiency tables to establish student clarity in learning.  Be sure to print out or project for students the proficiency table for the reported standard that you are focused on.  You may also want to hold individual or small group reflection feedback meetings to allow students time to engage with the expectations in learning and reflect on where they are in the process as well as ask clarifying questions of next steps towards proficiency.  Take time to risk take and try a proficiency feedback reflection this fall.

Update Your Information
