Personalized Learning: A Brief History

Personalized learning may seem like the newest trend in education but it isn’t “new” at all! It dates back to the rise of progressive educational theorists like John Dewey and Maria Montessori, to the rise of educational psychologists like B. F. Skinner and Benjamin Bloom, to special education legislation, to Gates Foundation grant funding, and to the current work of the Kaneland Personalized Learning Steering Committee. Take a look at this timeline to learn more about the long history of Personalized Learning.

"I will argue that “equality of quality” in education cannot be achieved by forcing all students to take exactly the same course of study, nor can the ideal of a democratic, classless society be actualized by establishing only one mode of excellence"

March 3rd 5Essentials Survey Reminder

Please remember to take your Teacher 5Essentials Survey on or before March 3rd.  Here is the Teacher Survey link.

Also be sure to assign the survey to your students on or before March 3rd by using these directions and attaching the PDF sent in email on February 11th with how to access the student's State ID:

Student Directions:

This year the school district is asking all 4th to 12th grade students to complete the 5Essentials State Survey.  Please use this link to complete your survey.  You will need to use your State ID and birthdate to complete the survey.  You can find your State ID in the Tyler Student Information System by following the attached directions.  Please complete this task on or before March 3rd.

It is important we remind students and families to complete the survey in order to hit the level of completion to allow us to see the results.  Thank you in advance for your work on this survey.

Post SIP Data

This year is a very unique year but our continued focus should always be on student advocacy and student clarity of expectation.  The intent of our SIP goals is to monitor the student understanding and application of advocacy and clarity in I can statements.  The following is a review of the data for each of the SIP goals.  Although the goals are not at the level we would have liked to see this year, we will continue to focus on ways to strength students' understanding of what they are learning and how to advocate.
