Show Your Love for Kaneland Connects

It is time to celebrate you!  We will be giving away 3 prizes to our amazing staff who submit how they are showing their love for the 5 Commitments and Kaneland Connects.  It could an example of one of the commitments, a letter from your students, a quick video showing your love for the plan!  You choose.  Make the product your own (personalizing at its best!)  All submissions must be sent to Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org by midnight on 2-18!  Let's celebrate all that you do for our students and learning and be rewarded too!

Kaneland Connects Community Goals

As we turn the page to the second half of the school year, we wanted to take a moment to share the community goals from Kaneland Connects with all staff.  These goals are important to our staff to share in family news, community newsletters, or in conversations with parents.  The community goals in the plan directly connect with our progress as staff in further developing our 5 commitment areas.  Starting this week, we will begin to have our winter/spring commitment team meetings to check our progress on all the goals of Kaneland Connects.

Community Goals for 2022-23:

-Community can identify benefits of co-teaching and MTSS

-Community can identify the wrap around services available

-Community can identify confidential and safe ways to communicate their needs to the school district

-Community can identify feedback in learning for their child

-Community can identify reported standards per content area for completed proficiency tables

-Community attends opportunities to discuss the shifts in learning practices

-Community can identify the SAMR model and learning examples of each stage

-Community can identify the purpose and process of standards based grading

Feedback

It is that time of year where we really get into the ability to co-construct feedback with students.  Learners have had a clear vision of the learning expectations by this point and should be ready to self-reflect on where they have been in learning and where they still need to go for proficiency.  We wanted to share a few visual to recall staff of the types of feedback and the feedback practices from Personalized Learning 2.75.  Remember the goal is to co-construct feedback and have an equal partnership between the student and the teacher are learning partner.  Take some time this month to reflect on the types of feedback that you are using and seeing in your classroom.

Update 10 Tenets of PL Document- with letters

Here is an updated link to the 10 Tenets Document that includes the letters from PL 3.0.

Tenet C: Learner Profile Evidence Sharing

The purpose of the learner profile is to drive student self-reflection and advocacy, as it relates to their individual learning needs. Tenet C in PL 3.0 asks that you show evidence of how you authentically embed the use of the learner profile into small group and individual conferencing and that you share examples of how students are using their learner profile to engage in self-reflection and advocacy. Essential to this tenet is the ability to identify how student self-reflection and advocacy have led to shifts in instructional practices. So far, we have had 51 staff members complete this tenet within PL 3.0! The video below shares several examples of how teachers in Kaneland are achieving this goal.

Educator Advisory K-5 Joint Statement

EAC met for the monthly EAC meeting.  Topics of discussion included:

  • Committee reviewed the levels of the decision-making continuum.  DMC levels will be used and shared at all meetings moving forward.

  • Laura Garland shared feedback received from the December virtual EAC meeting.

    • A current goal for the learner profile is to have it become more authentically embedded into daily classroom practice.  Future goals include having students take information they have learned about themselves forward to next year’s classroom and allowing students an opportunity to share their own profiles with others.  Continue to utilize coaches as a resource for learner profiles!

    • Feedback on New Teacher Induction Changes have been sent to Dr. Adkins.  He is reviewing them and will attend a future EAC.

    • Science Committee is looking for additional feedback on new science program selection.  EAC is invited to participate in the Feb 15 meeting (½ day sub. Classroom teachers are encouraged to share feedback with EAC.

  • Feedback was shared based on prior PD structures and topics.  Structures and topics for Spring IgKnight day were reviewed.  Call for proposals is now open. Teachers can fill out a proposal if there is a session they would like to present OR if there is a session they would like to attend.  Presenters will be matched to topics.

  • Second Step grid was reviewed. Teachers will follow grid structure but have flexibility to shift lessons as needed in response to specific classroom behaviors. Second Step lesson resources are available in each elementary school’s FRM. Exploratory teachers would like to support lessons by using common second step vocabulary. PD opportunities will be discussed for exploratory teachers and related services.

  • 10 Tenets were reviewed.  Teachers will have time on March 3 to continue to work on gathering evidence.  Learning walks, meetings, emails, videos are all great ways of submitting evidence. A tenant highlight video will be shared each month in the Curriculum Connection. Evidence has been collected, please request examples if needed for PL 3.0
