Team Interview Process for Exceeding Data

Team Interview Process for Exceeding Data and Student Growth

The intent of this protocol is for the Educational Service Department to meet with staff and teams that have produced and facilitated higher student achievement and growth in their grade level.  Each Spring, the Directors of the Educational Service Department will review the data sources and meet with teams showing the highest levels of performance and growth.  The following will be the identification process, meeting structure, and questions for the interview.

Purpose:
Our purpose is to learn from you about what made your team successful. To that end,  we will be taking notes and finding common themes from all of our discussions with various teams throughout the district. We will be sharing our findings with others, including all staff at the start of each school year.

Identification Process:

  • Review common formative assessment growth scores (in Matrix, Pulse, or local spreadsheets by school)
  • Look for the highest gain scores in ELA, Math, and Writing
  • Identify teams that produced the highest gains in learning
  • Identify teams that had the highest scores to meet if time allows

Meeting Structure:

  • Email the teams and explain the process and set a date
  • Come to the school to meet with the team
  • Provide breakfast or lunch for the team taking time to meet
  • Try to meet during collab, team time, or lunch
  • Set 20-25 mins of sharing time based on questions provided

Questions to Share:

  • We would like to hear your answers to the following questions.
  • What are 3-4 factors that you would attribute your team success to?
  • What risks have you taken?
  • Did you experience any failures and, if so, what did you learn?
  • What is your advice for other teams?
  • What ideas do you have to move the district forward?

  1. As a follow up to the team interview process post, I just wanted to share that the intent of this process is to highlight the great work our teams do and try to learn from some of the things our own teachers are doing.

Obviously some of the most apparent measures of success are test scores in reading, writing, and math, but as students age those data points get more and more spread apart and they are less accessible.

At the end of the day, this is meant to be an opportunity for teams to brag a bit--about something cool they've done and some positive impact they've made. Our focus will be academic growth, but we will look to any data that indicates students are being successful in any way!

So, if you have thoughts on this and how it might impact you, please feel free to reach out to your applicable Ed Services Director. Otherwise, just keep being awesome and wait til later this Spring to hear more about this and how you might be able to share your work with us!
