Collaborative Inquiry Update EC-5

Yesterday the EC-5 Collaborative Inquiry Team met for the data review and goal setting meeting.  The following is a summary of the work.  More information will be coming out at your school from the Team reps.  Thank you for all the feedback on the fall data dive.

Summary of the work (just a listing of notes from each group):
The team spent the morning on data dive reflection and needs of our students and staff.  Based on the data reflection we reset goals for next year and revised some for this year.  A long-term goal of discussing how to empower students to become more empowered to monitor their own learning using data.

PD goals for next year:
1. Lesson study to make PBP come alive
2. Connecting data source purpose to learner profile
3.  Data analysis process training for all grade level teams.  You will hear more about these goals in the roadshow and spring 2020

Math goals:
Continue to focus on tier 1 instruction, looking at the use of data to collect progress in learning while using continuum learning in math.  Math continuum full implementation for 2021-22, 2020-21 will be another voluntary year.  Over the course of the next year we will set guidelines for implementing the continuum-learning process and using PBP tables, and allow for vetting of PBP tables with student work during the next year.  Continue to focus on collaboration among vertical teams and job-alike teams will be a focus over the next few years.

Reading goals:
We are drafting a comprehension continuum for ELA over the course of this year.  This would be an optional choice for staff for the next two to three years, and not fully implemented until 2022-23.  Utilize PBP tables to vet student work and observations to norm the expectations of proficiency.  Begin to consider how students can interact with their data to set their own goals with learner profile short and long term goal slides.  Implement with fidelity the new ELA tool for learning next school year.

Writing goals:
Create a student-friendly rubrics for student reflection of writing progress.  Vet student writing with the PBP tables in order for all job-alikes to understand expectations.  Continue strong PD on writer’s workshop for fidelity in implementation.  Norming meetings will conclude this year with narrative and then shift focus to informational for 2 years and then 2 years of opinion, then cycle back to 2 years of narrative.  This provides in depth discussions and PD on all genres over the course of time.  Increase PD on interactive writing and continue to use to the fullest our current adopted tools with the writing delivery PBP tables.

We need to plan opportunities for staff that are joining our Kaneland family over time and “catch” up with the process and structures we have in place.
