Learner Profile Spring Assessment Reminder

 The Learner Profile Spring reflection is now open on Canvas for all 4th to 12th grade students.  Please assign this module to your students during an upcoming asynchronous or application day.  Please remind them they must hit the "submit assignment" button for the text box to open where they may type thier response.  Thank you in advance for reminding students to complete this relfection.  

Learner Profile Post Student Data Now Available on Canvas

 It is that time of year already to begin collecting post data on our SIP goals.  To be consistent with past school years, we are continuing to collect data this February on both the Learner Profile and Proficiency Tables (I can statements) application.  The data collection will take place the first three weeks of February.  Please assist this process and assign students during an application day to complete the learner profile relfection.  Students grades 4th to 12th grade may complete the relfection on Canvas, while students grades K-3 will need to complete the task on paper.  Please send all paper submissions to Sarah Mumm by February 12th.  Please help us meet our data collection goal and assign and remind students of the reflection over the course of the next few weeks.  Educational Services Department and Instructional Coaches will be coming out to school between February 8th and February 19th to visit with students and collect data on the use of I can statements. We will try to collect student data from students in open areas, smaller class size where there is space or pulling students into the hallway.  

Please note on March 3rd we will also be asking all staff to assign the State of Illinois 5 Essentials survey as an application activity.  This data is required by the state to monitor school district progress.  

In summary, please assign the following application assignments for students on the shared date:

February 3rd to February 12th:  Assign 4th to 12th grade students the Canvas learner profile reflection

February 3rd to February 12th:  Assign Kindergarten to 3rd grade students a paper pencil learner profile reflection

March 3rd: Assign 4th to 12th grade students the 5 Essentials survey 

Personalized Learning Steering Committee Joint Statement

The Personalized Learning Steering Committee met Thursday, January 21st from 4-6 pm at Meredith. Three new members were welcomed, Molly Duda from KBK, Zach Munro from HMS, and Kristine Carson from KHS. The addition of these members brings a special education perspective to the team. 

 The team continues to develop plans in two key areas:

• The infusion of personalized learning practices and PL Look Fors into ALL Kaneland schools

• The creation of a stand-alone IgKnighter Academy school, servicing students with all levels of need, run by staff with a variety of instructional expertise along the LDIP continuum

 

The team reviewed the revised timeline for the development of the IgKnighter Academy, and district enrollment decisions were shared. At this time, the goal is to open an IgKnighter Academy in the fall of 2023, servicing students in grades 4-8 in the first year. Each subsequent year, an additional grade level will be added, starting with 9th graders in the fall of 2024. 

 

The team is currently working to harness our collective knowledge, experiences, and ideas regarding personalized learning and is continuing to seek information from resources outside of Kaneland. Several committee members will be attending the National Convening Conference through the Institute for Personalized Learning (virtually) in early February and collaboration is on-going with a local district working to accomplish similar goals. Research will continue through February and March, with the next in-person meeting taking place during the April 5th SIP day.  

Optional I-Ready Professional Development K-5

 With the increased use of I-Ready this year, we have set up one hour virtual PD sessions for our staff to take advantage of during plan or asynchronous learning days.  The RTI Coordinators were very impressed with the new, higher level quality of I-Ready PD and we wanted to make sure to share these are revised sessions compared to previous sessions.  These are optional and only meant to assist you in better planning and usage of the great resources in I-Ready.  Please see the dates and topics below.  Educational Service Department will send out the links to the sessions as they get closer.  You may log in that day or if you know you want to attend a session and want to confirm a seat, please email Sarah Mumm at 10358@kaneland.org.

Remote Rigby testing in person at Meredith - April 21st and make up April 28

Kindergarten to 5th Grade Curriculum Expectations

It is that time of year again to gather teacher input and feedback on newly adopted supported curriculum tools.  As a reminder the following are the expectations for all staff to use as the emphasis tool while teaching ELA.  You should be using these tools unless you have met all expectations outlined in the Reading and Writing delivery tables.  This month we are collecting feedback on the new tools through EAC.  Please be sure to contact your EAC rep to share your feedback.  

Shared Reading from Fountas and Pinnell should be used First Grade through Second Grade

Interactive Read Alouds from Fountas and Pinnell should be used Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

Patterns of Power should be used First through Fifth Grade

Units of Study Writing from Lucy Calkins should be used Kindergarten through Fifth Grade (except in full remote learning structures this is optional this year)

Please note we are moving forward with a word study pilot for next year.  Please contact your EAC rep if you are interested in piloting one of the two materials selected by the committee last year.
