The high-school-specific personalized learning committee met on Thursday, October 20th for their first meeting of the year. Committee membership includes the following staff:

Heather Spaetzel, Sally Wilson, Emily VanDelinder, Eric Baron, Alex
Turk, Nathan Schmitt, Shaz Sheikhali, Jen Serviss, James Horne,
Patrick Raleigh, Laura Garland
The team reviewed potential topics to drive their work. These included supporting the implementation of the revised learner profile, the use of proficiency tables, reviewing infrastructures to support personalization, and barriers related to student motivation and engagement. Additionally, the team discussed initiating a building inventory of personalized practices as a means of supporting evidence collection for PL Academy 3.0 and identifying strengths and opportunities. The need to reiterate Kaneland’s definition of personalized learning, as well as related terminology, was identified, as was the need to continue supporting teachers in the creation of proficiency tables. The team’s first action step involves planning the personalized practices inventory collection process. The plan will be finalized at the next committee meeting, which will be held on November 21st, during the IgKnight Conference. The inventory process will be shared with all staff once it is finalized. The team is committed to the work of continuing growth within student-driven, personalized learning practices at KHS.
