Teacher Advisory Council Statement

Today the Teacher Advisory Council met for their monthly meeting.  The following topics were discussed:
Updates on the math continuum were shared from those that have been piloting.  Overall the feedback was positive from those that shared insights. A further area of growth will be to define and develop cross district proficiency definitions.  This is the goal of Personalized Learning 2.5 and the professional development throughout next year.  Each grade level will take time developing the proficiency tables for math and possibly ELA in order to have consistent definition that all will use for proficiency.  The Council voted 11-0 to approve the following motion:  It is recommended that all sections have the ability to continue the math continuum pilot for next year and staff may join the pilot for next year.  Staff may decline if they are a current pilot classroom (unless a further recommendation from the school level is made).  The end expectation is that all classrooms will adopt the math continuum no later than August 2020, per our Kaneland 2020 Strategic Plan.
The council discussed the possibility of make up snow days through elearning days (Blizzard Bags).  While we wait for the legislation to determine the specific rules, we plan to begin to develop lessons and activities for those days for K-3.  Please take a moment with your TAC rep to review the possible topics at your grade level in preparation for next month.
The council took time to consider revisions to the Open House structure.  There were many ideas shared among the team of alternative ways to showcase learning as well as a whole school vision and better reflect the vision of personalized learning. The council will continue this conversation and monitor this year’s attendance over the next month. Please be sure to continue to share ideas with your TAC rep prior to April.
A reminder from the Council to try to attend the collective efficacy session presented by Jenni Donohoo, PhD.  She is a best-selling author and professional learning facilitator with more than 15 years' experience in leading school change.  The session is this Friday during Kane County day.  Seats are still available for attendance.  Just stop on in at the KHS Library.
