SBG Commitment Team Joint Statement

The standards-based grading Commitment Team met for the final time on May 12th. The following items were discussed:

-The action items from this school year were discussed and data collection information was shared. It was deemed that the District is proficient in the following action items based on learning walks throughout the year:

-Staff can utilize a collaborative process to identify reported standards for selected content areas

-Staff can identify and pilot how to implement grading levels and grade conversion into their content area (identified courses)

-Staff can explore the retake process for their content area

The following areas were deemed as "Approaching Proficient" based on data collected:

-Students can identify the differences and importance in the types of tasks (formatives, summatives, homework, practice activities)

-Staff can model questions for students to ask during self-reflection and self-assessing

-Staff can recognize and implement the feedback process

-Staff can articulate to students the process, benefits, and importance of standards-based grading

The team discussed the 2022-2023 goals for SBG:

-Staff can implement grade conversion and levels of grading into their content area (identified courses)

-Staff can collaborate to create assessment tools that are assignment specific and reflect proficiency table expectations

-Staff can host question and answer sessions regarding grading practices with students

-Staff can implement the retake process for their content area

-Staff can articulate connections for proficiency tables including, but not limited to, standards-based grading

-Community can identify the purpose and process of standards-based grading

We emphasized the need for more explicit language linking the practices of standards-based grading to what is happening in the classroom (i.e. feedback cycles, practice, formatives, etc), the need for common language EC-12 for our parents, and the need to create an FAQ document to help staff host question and answer sessions for grading with students.

The team will be in the "Approaching Phase" for the 2022-2023 school year and will meet 4 times throughout.
